The Northwest Veterans Museum hosted the Girl Scout Troop from the Mill Creek area. There were seven scouts and three mothers including the Troop Leader. The museum docents showed them the display cases and what some of the items were including a DVD on "Women in the Military" and there was a segment on the early days of the Nurse Corps. They cut out patterns and made their own nurse hats and tried on white nurse uniforms. Then they tried on "steel pot" helmets and liners, a flight suit, a digital dark camo overcoat for night patrols in desert conditions, some other camo tops, a flight helmet, a skull helmet (used by Navy personnel) on carrier flight decks, and other soft caps with camo design as well as berets. The highlight was trying on an aircraft firefighters proximity suit helmet. It looks more like something one would wear going in outer space. Even the moms tried it on! They were shown a brief photo collection of vehicles and aircraft served on by one of the docents. As a parting gift, each scout received a "Red Poppy" for Memorial Day and little LED lighted pins that were red, white, and blue in the shape of a heart or a star.
